I was scouring the internet today when I came across the darndest thing: Mortal Kombat Legacy, a new live action webseries created by Machinima. I've always enjoyed Machinima creations, such as Freeman's Mind and Game Cubed. They have a whole variety of wonderfully animated bits that you could spend - and probably have - hours browsing through.
The latest series uploaded to youtube by Machinima is: Mortal Kombat Legacy, an action packed short video twebseries following, of course, the Mortal Kombat game, is too short to tell yet how well it will do. Luckily, I have faith in our Machinima crew. The actors in MKL are as surprising as they are perfect. Michael Jai White, whose other roles include Jambol from the Dark Knight, the Black Dynamite from The Black Dynamite, and even Jackson Briggs from the video short Mortal Kombat Rebirth. Kurtis Stryker, played by one Tahmoh Penikett (our favorite Captain Karl 'Helo' Agathon) is a well known actor himself. From the O.C., Two and A Half Men, and Star Trek Voyager we have the lovely Jeri Ryan as her second time playing Sonya Blade. And Kano is played by Darren Shahlavi, coming from one of my favorite TV shows: Sanctuary.
With this fun loving crew, the first episode of MKL came out wonderful. I particularly like the camera action as it goes along with the scene. If a character is waking up, the camera is blurry then comes into focus, if there is an action sequence, the camera stays on the characters and allows you to actually see what is going on. There is, of course, a lot of action going on.
The first episode starts with Sonya scoping out a factory, where Kano and his gain are making elite materials from stolen Department of Defense schematics. The rest of the team hear her via her communicator, and decide to skip protocol and gear up to provide back up. After they arrive a battle of guns, knives, and martial arts breaks out, quickly followed to the classic 'chase the villian now running away' scene. I was sad when it ended.
So far the story has been wonderfully filmed and delicately pieced together to form a wonderful series. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did my Darlings.
Have fun
